Born in Panuco de Coronando, Durango, Mexico in 1941 he married his wife Hortencia Martinez in San Juan del Rio, Durango in 1968. His two eldest daughters and oldest son were born in Victoria, Durango Mexico while he spent time working as a migrant laborer in ranches across the Hill Country and West Texas. Eventually he found stable work in Carrollton, Texas at the Columbian Country Club of Dallas as a dishwasher and custodian, allowing him to move his family to the United States. Two more sons were born in America and he eventually started working in the kitchen at the Club, attaining the title of Executive Sous Chef.
Taking advantage of the immigrant reform act of 1986- Octavio was able to achieve permanent residency, later obtaining his American Citizenship in 1996 along with his wife and 3 oldest children.
After more than 43 years at the club he retired in 2014. He could not sit still however and went back to work- with his son at Madison in Highland Park, doing whatever Osvaldo told him to do.
In May of 2016 he suffered a stroke that led to aphasia- limiting his ability to communicate verbally. He continued to thrive for the next 7 years, walking the beaches of Florida and Cozumel, the streets of Paris, and castles of Loire Valley France. He danced at his sons’ weddings and witnessed the birth of two new grandchildren and his oldest grandchild’s college graduation- all after bouncing back from multiple surgeries to relieve brain bleeds and limit his seizures. His life was cut short unexpectedly but his wife and children will remain strong, following his mantra: “The life is tough.. you have to be ready for it”.
