Michael R. Moody, age 67, of Garland, Texas, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at home with his wife, Cora “Scottie” Moody, by his side. Michael was born on December 16, 1946, in Sweetwater, Texas. Michael graduated from Bryan Adams High School in Dallas, Texas in 1965 He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in finance from North Texas State University in 1970. After college, he started his career at Preston State Bank in 1970. He quickly rose through the ranks to become an assistant Vice President until 1978, at which time he decided to change career paths and opened his own State Farm Insurance Agency. Michael ran his insurance agency for 29 years before his retirement in 2008. An avid golfer, Michael joined the Dallas Athletic Club in 1990 where he and his wife would spend many afternoons together. After he retired, he decided to kick back and enjoy his life playing golf and being at home with his loyal German Shepherd “Sadie”. He loved watching baseball and his favorite team was the New York Yankees. During high school his nickname was “Mickey” after his favorite New York Yankee, Mickey Mantle. He is preceded in death by, Orville Rohl Moody, Father, and Erma Bridges Moody, Mother. He is survived by his wife, Cora “Scottie” Moody, two sisters Betty Brewer of Corpus Christi and Beverly Garrett (Dr. Floyd) of Corpus Christi, two nephews, Fred Clark (Debbie) and Stephen Rohl Clark (Patricia), great nephews, Zachary Clark, and Stephen Rohl Clark II, great niece, Beverly Jackman, and mother-in-law Martia Scottino. A service to celebrate Mike Moody will be in the chapel of Sparkman/Crane Funeral Home 10501 Garland Rd. Dallas, TX 75218 at 12:30 p.m. Thursday July 3, 2014 with Dr. Earl Craig officiating. The family will greet friends at a reception immediately following in the Royal Room of the Dallas Athletic Club 2724 LaPrada Dr. Dallas TX 75228.
