Michael Vernon McCoy, born September 10, 1948, to Vernon Roderick McCoy and Nina Nathalee Combs in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021, in Dallas, Texas. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and friend to all who knew him. Mike had a passion for being outdoors and was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was known for his funny sayings and unbelievable mathematical abilities.
Mike graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. Mike started his very successful oil and gas career with Texas Oil and Gas Company in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was quickly promoted and became one of the youngest Vice Presidents in company history. In 1981, Mike was recruited to lead a new oil and gas venture and Arkoma Production Company was born. Over the years Mike continued his very successful career with Arkoma, and his successor companies, in the oil and gas business.
In addition to his oil and gas businesses, Mike was a minority owner of the Dallas Cowboys from 1989 until 1996. During his years with the Dallas Cowboys, Mike used his uncanny ability with numbers to create the well-known NFL Trade Value Chart, which is still widely used by NFL teams today.
Mike is survived by his wife of 30 years, Joni McCoy; his four children, Jeff (Laura) McCoy, Kim (Blake) Weiler, Madison McCoy and Mathew McCoy; his 4 grandchildren Remington Weiler, Hannah McCoy, Charlotte McCoy and Sophie Grace Weiler; his siblings Steve (Judy) McCoy, Gary (Shirley) McCoy, Melissa Bailey and Tim (Natalie) McCoy; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Nathalee McCoy and nephew Curtis Barton McCoy.
