Melvin was many things to many different people, but to his family he was everything. There is an old phrase used to describe some as a “jack of all trades, but a master of none”, well in Melvin’s case he was a “jack of all trades and a master of all”. There was nothing that he could not do or could not talk with you about. He was a master craftsman who built two houses for his family from the ground up and could take a car inside out and put it back together again. He was knowledgeable of so many topics making him a “well rounded” individual. If you wanted to discuss the gospel he could, if you wanted to discuss the trees or the flowers on the side of the road you would even learn a thing or two. He enjoyed many things, mainly spending time with his family, but a close second would be being out on a calm lake with a light breeze and a fishing rod in his hand. He was loved hard by so many and he returned that love tenfold. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for a loved one or anyone for that matter. He never greeted anyone without a smile and you were never a stranger. He would give the shirt off his back for anyone. There will never be enough words to emphasize how great of a man he was or how much he was loved by all. He is truly beyond measure. He was the patriarch of his family. A pillar and beacon so strong and influential that not even his passing could compromise it. He and his spirit will be alive every day and influence every decision his family members make He was a man when talked about needed no fabrication. To say he will be sorely missed is a massive understatement. Though he is gone he will be loved and reminisced of daily.
Visitation is 6-8pm, Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be at 2:00pm, Friday, October 24, 2014 at Grove Hill Funeral Home Chapel with interment following at Grove Hill Memorial Park.
