Josie lived a faith filled life of 94 years and was surrounded by her family when she died on October 31, 2018. Born in Wales on December 6, 1923 Josie was proud to be British and proud of her adopted United States. She served in World War II as a Women’s Air Force radar operator and served her adopted country at the Veterans Hospital as a volunteer for 49 years. Josie was a devoted wife to Chester Stanley an American Air Force service man with whom she had two children Anne and John. After Chester died, Josie started a new life with great courage in Dallas. She joined St Monica’s Parish in 1959.
In 1965 she married Willam Edward Toogood and created a full life of involvement in her community and parish and enjoyed international travel. Never happy simply “sitting around” Josie was fully engaged in life with tennis, jazzercise, prayer and bible studies. She was also a lector and Eucharistic minister; she contributed in the Helping Hands Ministry as well Stephen Ministry. Anyone in need could count on Josie for prayer, a listening ear or good food. Perhaps most importantly, Josie and Ed were “daily massers” at St Monica for 50 years.
She loved family and was a devoted mom to Anne and John and mother-in-law to Jamee and Lew. Her love overflowed with her little ones who called her Mimi. She cherished five grandkids: Scott, Mandy, Karen, Emily and Micah, and great grandmother to seven beautiful children: Cameron, Andrew, Mason, Emma, Keely, Connor and Anna Grace.
