Mary was born on April 2, 1928 in Mineola, TX to the late Guy and Madie Ray. Mary graduated from college and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. She was married to Robert Bruce Hanson and after his death, married Cam McGill.
Mary led an active life. She enjoyed water skiing, sailing, golf and tennis. Mary enjoyed playing the piano and was an accomplished cook and seamstress. She traveled the world extensively and enjoyed sightseeing and taking cruises. While living at Presbyterian Village North, she was active on various boards and committees. She was a member of the Listeners’ Book Review Club. She was a member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church.
Mary supported the interests of her three sons throughout her life. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She was a strong, passionate lady, a loving wife and a nurturing mother who was cherished and adored by many.
Mary was preceded in death by Robert Hanson, Sr.; Cam McGill; her parents, Guy and Madie Ray; and her aunt and uncle, Ludie and Bud Fuller.
Mary is survived by three sons: Bob Hanson and wife, Jane of Washington, DC; Rick Hanson and wife, Nancy of Austin, TX; Jeff Hanson, and wife, Lisa of Plano, TX; and her step children, Margret Kunkle of Dallas, TX; Marilynn Nesmith of Dallas, TX; and George McGill and wife, Debbie of Carrolton, TX.
Mary is also survived by eight grandchildren Dr. Courtney Hanson; Kelly Hanson; and Katherine Hanson; Emily Wight; Stephen Hanson; Angela Smith and husband, Sandon; Greg Hanson; Brad Hanson; and one great-grandson, Jackson Wight.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 24, 2012 from 6:00 P.M until 8:00 P.M at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home on Northwest Highway. Funeral services will be held at Sparkman-Hillcrest Northwest Highway Chapel on Saturday, August 25 at 2:00 PM with entombment to follow.
