Mary Marquez, age 84, passed away on January 17, 2021 in Grand Prairie, Texas. She was born on December 1, 1936 in Dallas, Texas to Jose and Elpidia Marquez and graduated from Incarnate Word University in San Antonio, Texas.
She was a devoted elementary school teacher at Houston ISD where she worked for more than 30 years.
In her spare time, Mary enjoyed crocheting, traveling and volunteering in her parish, Assumption Catholic Church in Houston, Texas.
She is preceded in death by: her parents, Jose and Elpidia Marquez; her brothers, Primitivo Marquez and Jesse Marquez; her sisters, Luz (Lucy) Jasso and Teresa Mayorga.
Survived by: her siblings, Eulalia Aviles, Carmen Escalona, Ester Consuelo Marquez, Margarita Marquez, Jose Marquez, Richard Marquez and numerous nieces and nephews.
(Aunt) Mary was beloved by her numerous nieces and nephews. At an early age, Mary was called to serve as an advocate for children as a social worker, later manifesting her love for children as an early childhood educator in inner city schools in the Houston area until her retirement in August, 1999.
