Mary Frances Irion of DeSoto, Texas was born November 9th, 1936 in Corsicana, Texas and passed away peacefully on October 14th, 2019. Mary was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother (Gomer) and great grandmother.
Mary grew up in Oak Cliff, Texas and twirled fire as a captain for the Adamson HS Leopardettes. She married the love of her life, Robert Everett Irion after graduating from high school and they were inseparable for the next 57 years until Robert’s passing in July 2012. Mary and Robert were blessed with and raised four children. Mary was a wonderful mother and also a successful businesswoman. She was a regional director for Young World Day Care early in her career, but spent most of her life working alongside Robert and her sons at Textrol, Inc.
Mary was a member of Hampton Road Baptist Church for 40+ years and loved to host special events like an annual Easter egg hunt in her backyard for the church. She especially loved her women’s Sunday school class and the special lifelong friendships that were formed.
Jesus said, love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind…and love your neighbor as yourself. Mary lived out this simple, but powerful calling every day of her life. Her “neighbor” was anyone she came in contact with. She never met a stranger and treated everyone with kindness and respect.
Mary is survived by her daughter Sandy and husband Bobby Hughes; sons, Daniel and wife Tammy, Michael and wife Paula, Robert and wife, Lee Ann. Grandchildren, Robin, Bobby, Jeremy, Jessy, Kasey, Kyle, Nick, Hunter, Drew and Mary and 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM Thursday, October 17, 2019 at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be 6PM-8:00PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
