Mary was born to Margaret and George Buchanan on December 5, 1921, in Paris, Texas.
She graduated from Austin High School in 1939 and the University of Texas at Austin in 1943 with a BA in Fine Arts and a secondary degree in Education. She was a member of the University Glee Club, University Singers and other college organizations.
Mary married the very handsome and all around great guy, Robert L. Glaze, on June 8, 1946. They were married 31 wonderful years until his death in 1977.
Mary began singing at the age of 13. She sang classics, opera and popular music but never Rock 'n Roll! She was a member of the Walnut Hill United Methodist Church choir for over 42 years. Mary served on several church committees including AD Council, Finance, Stewardship and Evangelism, as well as serving as President of the United Methodist Women. Her most beloved position was as a member of the Organ Committee which selected the beautiful instrument in the church sanctuary. Although she served in many capacities, Mary's most rewarding experience was teaching Adult Sunday School classes for over 50 years and Bible Studies for the United Methodist Women.
Mary was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. However, nothing could compare to her loyalty and excitement in watching the Texas Longhorn Football Team.
Mary was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband, Robert, their precious infant daughter, Linda Kay and beloved son, Bobby. She was also preceded by her adored brother, George Buchanan and wonderful parents, Margaret and George Buchanan.
She is survived by her loving and thankful daughters, Gayle Lewis and husband, Rick, and Barby Bogart and husband, Doug. Nana is also survived by her grandchildren whom she loved and adored and they returned that love: Amy Mitchell and husband, Dirk, Jennifer Lewis and husband, Wylie, Jeff Lewis, Mark Bogart and wife, Becky, Rob Bogart and fiance, Annie Wild, and Brian Bogart and wife, Kristin. Nana was blessed with five perfect great -grandchildren: Madison and Mason Mitchell, Ryder and Charlie Gause and Jake Bogart.
Mary's family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the Pena Family, the staff at The Legacy Preston Hollow and Vitas Hospice care for their kindness and loving care.
The family will receive friends at a visitation on Sunday, October 25, 2015, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home. A Memorial Service to celebrate Mary's life will be held on Monday, October 26, 2015, at 2:00 pm, at Walnut Hill United Methodist Church, 10066 Marsh Lane, Dallas, Texas 75229, with Rev. Alexandra Robinson officiating.
If desired, memorials may be made to Walnut Hill United Methodist Church.
Mary lived her life following God's greatest commandment: Love God, Love thy Neighbor. She knew Jesus Christ as her savior and His gift of life everlasting.
