She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Martin Lee (ML) Evans. Also preceding her in death are her parents, 2 sisters (spouse) Addie Lou Wells Guy (Troy) and Billie Wells Frisbie (Royce), and one brother, Robert A. Wells, Jr.
Mary and ML Evans graduated from Memphis High School and Mary attended West Texas State University. They married on Easter Sunday, March 28, 1948 in Memphis.
She was a homemaker as well as a very good cook, everyone’s favorites being her cream gravy, almond rice, banana pudding and salmon biscuits. She worked outside the home at various times as a telephone operator, retail PBX operator, fashion model and was a part of the family’s retail appliance and electronic business.
She was a long-time member of Alpha Alpha Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi women’s sorority. Each year they held a surprise breakfast in which members were awakened very early on a weekend morning and escorted directly to a breakfast event looking just as they did when they got out of bed. Always known for her well-kept and well-coiffed appearance, Mary knew approximately when these events would occur and made sure to go to bed on those nights with a full face of makeup, hair perfectly done and a beautiful nightgown!
Mary and ML retired from Amarillo to Dallas and continued to enjoy their children and grandchildren. They also enjoyed RV travel, especially in the Western US and Las Vegas. They enjoyed the shows there and were both very good poker players.
After ML passed in 2009, Mary continued living in their condo for a few years and then moved into MacArthur Hills Assisted Living Community in Irving. She enjoyed the many friends she met there as well as caregivers and staff. She was the proud recipient of the Best Dressed Resident award three times and was the poker champion on several occasions.
Mary is survived by three sons Michael (Voy Andrews), Randy (Martha Gene) and Jimmy (Karen), as well as five grandchildren, Julie Albracht (Cory), Brent (Stephanie), Robert (Jen), Cole, Clay and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Evelyn Wells, Peggy Hartman and Judith Uhrich, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mary was a life-long Christian.
