Mary Anne Birmingham Odom was born August 4, 1919 in Ft. Worth, Texas. She was the only child born to Frank and Annie Mae Birmingham. At a very early age, the Birmingham family moved from Ft. Worth to Bastrop, Texas. There Mary Anne attended public schools and graduated from Bastrop High School. In 1938 she was married to Don P. Odom, an oilman that she met while he was working in Bastrop. After marriage, Mary Anne and Don moved to Houston where she lived for over 60 years. She moved to North Dallas in 2004 to be close to her son Don. P. Odom Jr.
While in Houston, Mary Anne had a passion for swimming and civic service. She often swam at the Shamrock Hotel and other venues. She enjoyed entertaining at the Petroleum Club and at her beach house on the Bolivar Peninsula. She served as a docent at serval museums in the Houston area.
Mary Anne is preceded in death by her husband Don who died in 1985. Surviving are her son Don P. Odom Jr. of Plano and 4 loving grandchildren; Don P. Odom III of Austin, Texas, Linka Anne Odom of Berlin, Germany, Rayburn Lee Odom of Taipei, Taiwan and Laney K. Odom of Denver Colorado.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening February 17th at 6PM at the Ted Dickey West Funeral Home. A service to honor her life will begin at 7:30PM in the funeral home chapel. Graveside services will be the following day, February 18th at 3:30PM at the Fairview Cemetery in Bastrop, Texas.
