Marvin was born on November 25, 1938, to Marie and Edwin James Colwill in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he was reared along with his older sister, Evelyn Marie Colwill Mehlhaff,
his brother, Wesley James Colwill, and his sister, Renee Marie Colwill Lovelace.
Marvin graduated from Washington High School, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in 1956. He joined the United States Air Force in February 1957. He was stationed in Abilene, Texas, where he met Betty Jo Murdock. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married at the First Assembly of God Church on March 21, 1958, by Rev Wilson G. Estes. They shared their love for each other for 62 years before Betty passed away on May 3, 2020.
Marvin’s work career consisted of jobs at Frontier Savings Stamps, The Toy Box, IBM, Braniff International Airlines, Berean Fellowship International, Willsie Cap and Gown, and his own company, The Graduation Place.
Marvin and Betty were two of the most caring individuals you would ever meet. They were always helping others and constantly giving of their time and money to make the lives of other people better. Marvin and the family would work odd jobs at the area grocery stores after school in order to get day-old food and canned goods. They would take those items to the local food banks and homeless shelters.
Marvin is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Betty Jo Colwill, his parents, Marie and Edwin Colwill, and his older sister, Evelyn Marie Colwill Mehlhaff. He is survived by his siblings Wes Colwill (Rocky), Renee Lovelace (Joe B.), sons; Brian Colwill (Becky), Kevin Colwill (Kathy), David Colwill (Adrienne), Steve Colwill (Lori), Gary Colwill (Natalia) and Jesse Colwill (Diana). He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to their beloved friends Anita Martin, Debbie Colwill, Nancy Williams, Terie Richards as well as the caregivers at Long Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care and Cheyenne Medical Lodge.
