Martha Ann Cash (Burlew), 76, of Dallas, Texas, peacefully passed with grace, dignity and her loved ones by her side on April 22, 2017, after a courageous battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). She is predeceased by her husband Mike and survived by her children, John Micheal Cash and wife Margaret, Patty Drake, Susan Cash, Frank William Cash, Mary Scanlan and husband Danny, Martha Cash, Matthew Cash and wife Tina, Christopher Cash and wife Sonia, Catherine Kleinmeier, Anthony Cash, Daniel Cash, 39 grandchildren (including Brogan Jack Kleinmeier who preceded her in death), 30 great grandchildren, her twin sister Mary Green and sister Joan Brown, sisters-in-law, Frances Cavagnaro and Carol Cash, brothers-in-law Jimmy Green and Edward Bradfield, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Martha was born in Dallas, Texas on May 6, 1940 to Henry Grady and Estelle Burlew. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. Shortly after graduation, she married Micheal Edward Cash. They married on August 23, 1958 and remained married for 52 years until his death on July 29, 2010.
Martha worked in the home as manager of the Cash family from 1958 to 1992. During this time, she not only worked tirelessly to care for her family and maintain the household, she diligently worked by Mike’s side to operate several successful businesses as well as providing numerous volunteer hours at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic School.
In 1992 she took a position with a home health care organization, Outreach Health Services. She worked there until she retired in 2005 to care for her beloved husband Mike who had serious health issues. She was relentless in her care for him until his death. After his death, Martha stayed busy. She was involved in Catholic Daughters of the Americas where she served as Secretary of her local chapter. She was elected Treasurer shortly before she was diagnosed with ALS and unfortunately was unable to fulfill the obligations of this position. She also participated in numerous weekly prayer groups and was an avid supporter of the pro-life movement.
Though Martha was diagnosed last August with ALS and forced to endure this unforgiving disease, she was a great example of living with strength and humility under the toughest of circumstances. The disease rapidly progressed after the diagnosis until her pain and suffering came to an end on April 22.
Martha was surrounded by her children, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her sisters in her final hours. Her family is comforted in knowing that she is no longer suffering and can enjoy the fruits of everlasting life with her cherished husband, parents and numerous family members and friends that passed before her.
The Holy Rosary will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at 5:30 pm followed by the visitation from 6:00-8:00 pm at Calvary Hill Funeral Home's Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Dallas at 11:00 am on Monday, May 1, 2017 with the committal immediately following at Calvary Hill Cemetery.
