Marilyn was born in Rochester Minnesota and grew up there. She met her husband Richard “Dick” Stevens while in high school. They were married on September 5, 1953 and had three children. They lived in Minnesota, Maryland, Oregon, Nevada and got to Texas as quickly as they could.
Marilyn and Dick loved RVing and travel both domestically and internationally. They were the first Americans to visit parts of China after the U.S. resumed a relationship with them in the 1970s. They RVed together for 28 years and traveled from Alaska to Nova Scotia. An RV trip could last anywhere from a week to five months. Her favorite trips included spending time with daughter Susan and her family parking in their driveway for weeks at a time.
Marilyn was an avid tennis player in her early years, was very competitive and loved winning. She enjoyed gardening, reading and art. She not only oil painted, but also taught an art-on-the-go class in the Klein elementary schools. Marilyn enjoyed knitting and because of her love for knitting, and family we all have custom personalized Christmas stockings. Camping was also a way the family enjoyed time together as the children grew up.
You could find Marilyn with her friends playing bridge a couple of times a month. The games were always filled with much laughter and fun. She and her husband Dick, had an ongoing gin rummy card game and played cribbage nightly to see who would do the dinner dishes.
Marilyn was a Cub Scout, Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed supporting her children and grandchildren in sports, drill team, band and many other activities. She was always ready to either travel to her grandchildren or have them come visit. The grandkids have fun memories of RV trips with Grambo.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Richard; and brothers Eldon and Lucky Holtorf.
Marilyn is survived by her son, Rick Stevens and wife Nelwyn; daughter, Sandi Stevens; daughter, Susan Gard and husband Pat; grandsons, Rick Stevens, Robbie Stevens, Ryan Stevens, Sean Gard and Quinn Gard; and granddaughters, Reagan Gard and Rachel Resch as well as many other loved family members.
