She moved with her family throughout the Midwest before moving to Dallas in 1948. Marilyn graduated from Highland Park H.S. in 1950 and enrolled at SMU, majoring in Elementary Education. She was a Delta Gamma and met her husband (Jack) of 68 years during an open house at the DG house. Jack and Marilyn married on April 14, 1956, at Christ the King Catholic Church. She taught school in DISD for several years until starting her family. Marilyn worked at SMU Fondren Library from 1981-88. She was an active Canyon Creek North Garden Club and Richardson Women’s Club member. Marilyn stayed active and engaged in gardening, quilting, painting, and exercise. Marilyn was devoted to her family and always there for her children, supporting and encouraging them in their pursuits. Marilyn loved to cook, providing her family with home-cooked meals every night, and was an accomplished baker, winning the St. Louis Post Dispatch contest in the pastry division.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Jack; her daughter, Carol Duncan; her son, John Duncan (Melanie); and her daughter, Nancy Woodall (David). Grandchildren: Meredith Duncan, Heather Duncan Smeltser (Jonathan), Claire Woodall Barker (Oliver), John Woodall; great-grandchildren, Rosemary and Jude Smeltser, nieces Susan Swanson, Laura Swanson Spangler (Bodie), and nephew David Swanson (Leigh). She was preceded in death by her father, Delmar Dean Mock; her mother, Mary Sabina Mock; sister, Nancy Mock Swanson; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family is thankful for the caregivers at The Preston of Park Cities and Overture, who cared for Marilyn with love and respect.
A private family service will be held on December 18, 2024. The family welcomes donations to the St. Jude Foundation in lieu of flowers.
