Margaret Latham Moore Croft was a loving and thoughtful wife, mother and friend. She was born July 6, 1940 to John Latham and Helen Messina Moore in New York City. After her father went missing in action while serving in WWII, she and her mother (Helen Rounsaville Hamilton) resided in Highland Park. She spent many summers on the family farm with her many cousins in upstate New York. She attended Hockaday School, The Centenary School for Women, UT, and SMU where she met Buddy (Claud Walton Croft.) They married in June of 1961 and soon after moved to Lubbock. There they had their daughters Carolyn and Michelle and enjoyed 35 years of marriage.
Margie was a devoted follower of Christ and an active member of The First Baptist Church of Lubbock. She served throughout the community in many ways. She was involved in WMU, Lubbock Women’s Club, PEO, and Junior League, and was an active Chi Omega Alumnae and Sherrick board member. She was a member of the Lubbock Country Club.
Margie passed away peacefully with her family in Oklahoma on November 2, 2015. She is survived by her children, Carolyn Croft of San Antonio,Texas, Michelle and Evan Gatewood of Edmond, Oklahoma and her grandchildren Blake, Bailey, Meg, Ty, MaryKate, Jet and Emma Gatewood of Edmond, Oklahoma. Margie loved to decorate and host all kinds of events. She enjoyed traveling, cooking and being with her seven Oklahoma grandchildren. She will be remembered for her kindness, gentle spirit and of course, her gingerbread cookies. Services will be held November 6, at 2:00 at Sparkman/Hillcrest in Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Buckner’s Children’s Home, 129 Brentwood Ave. Lubbock, Texas 79416.
