Louis Lee Munoz entered eternal life on June 22, 2016 after a long courageous battle with a rare autoimmune disease. He was born to Genaro and Delores Munoz on September 8, 1949 the eldest of four children. His birthplace was in Lexington, Nebraska a small Midwestern town along the Platte River. He was named in honor of his Uncle Louis who had been lost at sea just a few years earlier at the tender age of 19 while serving in the U.S. Navy. Privileged to live near his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, family was the center of his life. He had an especially close relationship with his grandfather spending his childhood days at his side as they harvested beets and potatoes. At the end of a long hot work week, Louie’s favorite memory was stopping at the local tavern. There he would sit proudly by his grandpa as they enjoyed their reward of one cold beer for Grandpa, one cold RC Cola for Louie
.
At a very young age, Louis expressed his hearts desire to one day become a priest dressed in “vestments that grandma had sewn from old curtains” he would role play celebrating mass. He attended St. Ann’s Catholic School and was very active as an altar server.
He attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln where he graduated and was then accepted into medical school at the University of Nebraska, Omaha. Upon graduating, he spent his first 12 years of his career at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland specializing in pediatrics and pediatric oncology. He also met his wife Jayne who was working as a nurse.
He came to Texas and worked at St. Paul Hospital and Children’s Medical Center, in Dallas. He continued his career by establishing a practice at Medical City Dallas working for Texas Oncology. In serving his patients he assured he would give 100% with his own two hands, but the rest of the healing was in God’s.
He was ordained a deacon on January 15, 1997. He was called to serve at Prince of Peace Catholic Community. He dedicated the next 18 years facilitating the bereavement ministry with his wife Jayne.
Louis was married to Jayne for 40 years. They have two children, Derek and Alicia and three grandchildren, Clarissa, Vivienne and Henry. Louis was man of God dedicated to healing others. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Samaritan Inn 1710 N McDonald St, McKinney, TX 75071.
