Linda Sue Millender

Linda Sue Millender, 85, of Plano, TX went to be the Lord on March 22, 2024. Linda Sue was born in Grapevine, TX on October 23, 1938 to Fred and Martha Statum. In 1953, Sherman Millender Sr. and Zephia Millender moved to Grapevine, TX and it was during this time that Linda Sue and Sherman started dating as juniors in high school.They married at the First Baptist Church of Grapevine on July 2, 1960.

Linda Sue was very active in high school and was Football Sweetheart, Homecoming Queen, and served as a class officer each year. She attended North Texas State University (now UNT) where she graduated in three years. She was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority and the Panhellenic Council. After she and Sherman married and he completed his degree, she worked for the Civil Defense Department in Denton, Texas.

In 1961, they moved to Plano, Texas and she began working as a secretary at Collins Radio in Richardson. She and Sherman welcomed their first son, Brett in 1966 and second son, Barry in 1970. During this time she enjoyed her role as being a loving mother to her sons. In 1972, she went to work at Davis and Associates as the Office Manager and was there for 27 years until she retired.

Linda Sue and Sherman joined Christ United Methodist in Plano in 1975 and were some of the founding members of the Koinonia Sunday School Class at the church. She was also a member of the Plano Rejebian Book Club.

Linda Sue and Sherman enjoyed traveling extensively with a number of friends after retirement, specifically Corky and Donna Criswell and Jerry and Dianne Pair. Linda Sue loved the beach and water and liked the mountains, Sherman loved the mountains and liked the beach and water! They enjoyed sailing in the Virgin Islands and Bahamas, and visiting Hilton Head, Galveston, Port Aransas, and Carmel.

They loved visiting Barry in Colorado, where he lived for 25 years and Brett in Arkansas, where he lived for 30 years. They also enjoyed their townhouse in Cloudcroft, New Mexico, where they enjoyed the cool weather in the Summer.

Linda Sue is survived by her husband of 63 years, Sherman Millender of Plano, TX; son Brett Millender of Plano, TX; daughter-in-law Heidi Millender of Galva, Ill.;sister-in-law Greta Marder; nieces Debbie, Carolyn, Dana, Cory, Magan, and Katie; nephews Danny, Jason, and Michael.

She is also survived by dear friends Donna Criswell; Larry Guinn; Keith and Carolyn Sockwell; and Don and Dorris Gray. Also by wonderful caregivers Cindy, Sabina, and Amanda. She is predeceased by her parents Fred and Martha Statum; sister Eudene; son Barry; nephews, David and Bobby McMurray.

A memorial service will be conducted at Christ United Methodist Church Plano, 3101 Coit Rd.,Plano, TX 75075 on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 11:00 am, with a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Hendrick Scholarship Foundation, 850 Central Pkwy E Suite 120, Plano, TX 75074.
