Leonard Marcus Dean of Dallas was born January 30, 1920 and died December 21, 2010. His family is grateful to God for his life and influence on his family and friends. Marcus was a proud American who served with the 503rd airborne Infantry of Paratroopers in WWII from 1941 to 1948. He was a devoted husband and father, steadfast friend and highly respected professional in his field. Marcus had a generous spirit, clever wit, engaging sense of humor and a big, loving heart. He attended North Dallas High School, graduated from Kemper Military School in Missouri and SMU. He was V.P. of Warlick Press, later Steck-Warlick, until 1970 when he founded Graphics International, Inc. and was president/owner until retirement in 2004.
Survived by his loving wife, Karen; son Mark and Terri Dean of Amelia Islalnd, FL; daughter Nancy and Paul Slater of Naples, FL; stepson James and Shauna Murphy of Grand Saline; granddaughter Alison Slater; grandson Christopher Murphy; sister Marinel Platt of Sun City, AZ; trusted associate and dear friend John (Big John) and Odean Smith; and preceded in death by son, Robert. Our deepest appreciation to those who took care of Marcus: Christopher Johnson, Tracy Tutson, and Tonya Walls.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home. Private Interment for family, Thursday at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The memorial service is at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Highland Baptist Church, 8202 Boedeker, Dallas, TX 75225.
