On Sunday, March 24, 2024, Larry Rinaldo–loyal husband, devoted brother, loving uncle and Army veteran–died peacefully at the age of 84 in Plano, TX surrounded by family. He had been struggling with various health issues over the last few months.
Lawrence Russell Rinaldo, Jr. was born on April 30, 1939 in Elgin, IL to Lawrence and Myrtle (Hintt) Rinaldo. After high school, Larry joined the United States Army and served for four years, primarily as a Field Radio Repairman. On February 5, 1966, he married Patricia Ann Norwood, and they were married for 58 years, with her by his side until his death. Larry spent most of his working years as an engineer at Southwestern Bell Telephone. He kept learning throughout his life and even earned his Associates degree from Brookhaven College in 1993. During the latter years of his life, he worked for Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
Larry was an honest man who valued his integrity. He was upfront and forthright in his dealings with other people, showing them respect. And he did his utmost to fulfill any obligations he had towards others. He strove in many ways to be a fair, honorable and conscientious man.
Larry loved to do a wide variety of things with his hands. He was an amateur geologist and enjoyed collecting everything from ore to crystals to minerals (but we can’t figure out if he was rocking it or if he was just stoned). He was also fond of playing the piano and would often record his music. Additionally, he liked woodworking and would share many of his creations with family and friends.
He was also quick to tell stories and jokes–so many from childhood shenanigans and sports–whether it be the thrill of victory or the agony of defeat. He told of his escapades in the army, his experiences at “Ma Bell” and his close calls at Enterprise. He was always trying to make people laugh–sometimes having more success than other times.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence, his mother, Myrtle, his brothers, Paul, Robert and Johnny, and his sisters Joan and Ruth. He is survived by his wife, Patty Rinaldo, his brother Ken Rinaldo (Pearl) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry will be buried with military honors at the DFW National Cemetery on April 12, 2024 at 11:30 am.
