Laverne Brewer Dorsey was born on January 12, 1967 in Dallas, Texas to Elizabeth Brewer and Vernon Moore. She was the 3rd daughter out of 4 girls. She attended schools in the Dallas Independent School District and graduated from Madison High School in 1986.
She worked in the food industry for 11 years as a manager at Church’s Chicken. In 1997, she begin working in local school districts. Laverne worked in administration for the Duncanville Independent School District for over 20 years until her resignation in February 2022.
Laverne had a strong belief in continuing her education. She received an Associates degree in Spiritual Counseling from the Southern Bible Institute, an Associates of Science in Psychology degree from the Colorado Christian University and a Bachelors degree in Counseling from the Colorado Christian University. She also received her Ministers license in December 2014.
Laverne loved her community and was always giving back to those less fortunate. She volunteered by feeding the homeless, making care packages, praying and providing spiritual guidance to anyone that God lead her to speak to. She was a member of many outreach groups such as the United Sisters, Jordan Ministries and Ladies on Fire for Christ. Laverne spread God’s word, love and encouragement to anyone with a listening ear.
Laverne was a faithful member of Pleasant Grove Community Baptist Church and later joined Cornerstone Community Church where she was a member for over 20 years. She was a woman of many hats at Cornerstone including the Minister’s board, Choir, Women’s committee, Usher board and the list goes on an on.
She loved traveling, cooking, ministering, spending time with her family and playing games (especially UNO). She was the best mother to her children and the greatest “Nana” to her grandchildren.
Laverne gained her wings on Monday, April 18, 2022. She was loved by so many and will always be remembered in our hearts. Her legacy will live on in her children, grandchildren and all of those that knew her. We love you and will always keep your words close to our heart: “Be safe, make good choices, don’t let nobody push your buttons and don’t forget to pray”
She was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Moore.
Laverne leaves to cherish her memories: 4 children; Kendrick Bell (Krystal), Shandon Bell (Tiffany), Patrick Bell and Tenia Willis (De’Aire). 3 stepchildren; Cedric Thomas Jr, Dandre Dorsey and Deshuandra Dorsey. 14 grandchildren; Kameron, Marquis, Zakyra, De’Aire Jr., Kaden, Jace, Kaleb, London, Ryan, Jordyn, Kennedi, Preston, Ava and Tru. Mother; Elizabeth Brewer, 3 sisters; Elaine Brewer, Laine (Ronnie) Morgan and Marilyn Smith. 3 nephews; St. Charles Williams, Ronnie Morgan Jr, Jonathan Smith and 1 niece; Katysha Morgan. And a host aunts, uncles, cousins, church family and friends.
