Joyce Vernell McClain was born January 14th, 1941, in Hilly, Louisiana to the late Rommie and Haulthy Maryland. She married the love of her life for 47 years, James L McClain, who preceded her in death.
To this union, five children were born; Garry McClain, Gregory O'keefe McClain - (preceded her in death), James Glen McClain - (preceded her in death), Felecia McClain and Angela Ross.
She leaves to mourn son, Garry McClain, daughters, Felecia McClain, Angela Ross, son in law Marquis Ross, grandchildren, Jameson McClain, LaQuis McClain, James Johnson, Demarcus Johnson and Camry Ross. Great grandchildren, Jai’lah Gillaspie, Jaydah McClain and Janiyah McClain.; sister Mildred Jackson, best friend-cousin Dorothy Faye Walker, best friend Betty Wilson. Honorable Mention for Joan Moore, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She joined Pleasant Grove Church, Unionville, Louisiana under the proficient leadership of the late Reverend Tovin. Joyce and her family relocated to Dallas, Texas in 1970. She received her training as an Usher with the National Baptist Congress at Allen Chapel Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas through the leadership of the late President Larwena Williams. In 1997, she joined New Leaf Missionary Church where she was very active in usher ship.
Joyce was a dedicated family person and had a love for the beauty of the natural world, enjoying peaceful moments gazing skyward, relishing the beauty created by Our Father God. She was a gentle private individual who cherished strong, close relationships which she developed throughout her life. She enjoyed growing delicious vegetables in her garden and beautifying her yard with colorful flowers. With such a generous spirit she frequently provided support for local food banks and the Salvation Army.
She was employed as a machinist at Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent Technologies for 28 years where she was awarded Attendance Merit.

A visitation for Joyce will be held Friday, December 9, 2022, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6300 South R.L., Thornton Freeway, Dallas, TX 75232. A celebration of life will occur Saturday, December 10, 2022, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at New Leaf Missionary Baptist Church, 5044 Veterans Drive, Dallas, TX 75241. A committal service will occur Monday, December 12, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Laurel Land Mem Park - Dallas, 6300 S. R.L. Thornton Frwy., Dallas, TX 75232.
