Tony was a man who everyone enjoyed knowing. He was born in England at RAF Burtonwood on January 26, 1946 to Bonnie Joe and Alice Bunton. He and his family eventually relocated to Dallas, TX where Tony graduated from Bryan Adams High School. He then joined the United States Air Force, to serve as his father had. He fought in the Vietnam War from 1964-1966, and later served in Germany. Both of Tony’s illnesses were a side effect of his service.
After serving his country, Tony returned to Dallas where he worked for many years at Nichol Scales. He received a Distinguished Service Award in 1986. He later served the United States Postal Service for sixteen years until he retired in 2011.
As four-time Commander of The Veterans of Foreign Wars 6796, and District VFW Commander for Rockwall and Dallas from 1999-2000, he distinguished himself with unwavering service and commitment to the Veterans he served. He reached out to many Vietnam veterans who had not been previously given recognition, nor respect for their service. He spoke at many High schools and organized fundraisers to support struggling families and veterans. This service was particularly evident during holidays and whenever a veteran was suffering from financial difficulty.
Above all, he worked to elevate the image of the veterans he served lest their efforts and service would be forgotten or diminished. This service was his greatest pride. Tony also found abundant joy in collecting Rock and Roll records and Memorabilia.
Above all, Tony loved his family, both present and extended. He is survived by his wife Miriam (Mimi) Bunton; brother, Terry Bunton; son, Kristofer Bunton; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Jason Schmitt; and grandchildren, Ellie and Cooper Schmitt. He will not be forgotten and will truly be missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a contribution to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or a cancer research organization of your choice.
