Jose Antonio de la Fuente passed away Friday afternoon, October 12, after long-suffering the debilitating effects of dementia. To the end he was an extraordinarily loving, gracious, and funny man who will be much missed by family and friends.
Jose came to the United States in 1969 with his wife Aida, now deceased, and were reunited with their son and Aida's parents. In Cuba, he had managed a farm owned by his brother which would later be appropriated by the Cuban government.
He, like his wife Aida, saw hope for a better life in the United States and endeavored to help family members still in Cuba. They became a much-loved couple in the Dallas Cuban community. As parents, it is difficult to imagine more caring and loving mother and father than they.
Jose is survived by his only child, Cesar, his brother and sister-in-law, Cesar Frutos of Frisco, and Silvina Eljaua of Hialeah, and their families, as well as many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6PM at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home, Dallas on Sunday, October, 21. Services will be held at St. Monica Catholic Church, Dallas at 10AM, Tuesday, October 23; reception follows.
