He was born to John and Ruth Ashmore and grew up in Dallas, Texas. After graduating from the University of North Texas, and being in the Army reserve, he began his career with The Zale Corporation. John worked his way up to Executive Vice President by displaying an unprecedented work ethic and genuine love of the business. After his 17 years with Zales, he joined the family business that his father’s family had started in the 1940’s. John, his sister and cousin ran Premium Laundry and Linen Co in Dallas, Texas, servicing hotels, hospitals and restaurants all over Texas and parts of Oklahoma.
With a keen mind for business, John always had creative and profitable ideas for all organizations that he was involved in. There were many but The Knights of Columbus was the group of people that had his heart. He was involved with the Knights up until his death. John was Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus in Greenville, TX for four years and created Mayfest. Due to John’s dedication to the project, the Knights were able to upgrade and sustain their existing building. If he wasn’t at home mowing, feeding chickens or working dogs, he was “at the hall” doing something for The Knights.
A devoted Catholic, he was deeply involved in his church and dedicated to helping his parish with any and all needs. From donuts and milk on Sunday mornings to volunteering his time as a member of the financial committee, he was always ready to offer a helping hand.
John is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Burkhalter Ashmore, daughter Jessica Ashmore Siciliano (Pete), daughter Susan McDorman (Jeff), brother Jamile Ashmore (Barbara), sister Ruth Ann Zelazny (Hal), nephew Dr. Jay Ashmore Jr, (Kimberly), niece Belinda Ashmore, nephew Alex Geldon (Whitney), six grandchildren, Carmela Siciliano, D’Anna Siciliano (Chris), Dante Siciliano, Gaston McDorman (Summer), Drew McDorman (Whitney), Brock McDorman (Storie) and three great grandchildren Cylas Siciliano and Olivia and Rhyan McDorman.
