Joan Temple Galt lived an extraordinary life as an artist. Her art extended from vibrant paintings to the way she arranged the flowers on the breakfast table to how she saw a future sculpture in a graceful seed pod. Creativity, beauty and proportion guided her endeavors. Joan’s brilliant, shining Soul left her physical body on February 23, 2013 at age 88.
Joan loved life, and many people loved her, starting with her parents, Jessebelle Barry and James “Foxy” Temple. She began her marriage of 53 years to Dr. Jabez Galt in 1949, while her father was mayor of Dallas. Joan’s grandparents and great grandparents were early residents of Dallas. She graduated from the Hockaday School and the University of Texas. Joan is survived by son Bryan Temple Galt and his daughter Camille Galt, and by her daughter Anna Temple Galt, Anna’s husband Dennis Cline, and Anna’s daughter Alexandra Galt Swast and her husband Timothy Swast. Also, brother James Temple of Colorado, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, Joan would have welcomed donations to The Stewpot Ministry of First Presbyterian Church, Habitat for Humanity, or any charity that helps animals.
Memorial service will be Saturday, March 2nd at 2:00 PM at Sparkman/Hillcrest. Private interment at a later date at Grove Hill Memorial Park, near her many ancestors.
