Mr. Jimmy Grandest Williams

Jimmy Grandest Williams, born July 15, 1942, has left a legacy marked by his devotion to education, passion for music, and zest for life. Born to Solomon and Mary Williams, Jimmy grew up in Carthage, TX, where his love for music and education blossomed. Jimmy married Oretta Brown in 1962, and from that union three beautiful daughters were born. He found his calling in teaching, a profession he pursued with unwavering dedication. Graduating from Jarvis Christian College with a Bachelor of Science in Education, he later earned a Master's degree from Prairie View A&M University, solidifying his commitment to shaping young minds. Jimmy's career in education took him and his family from Oklahoma City where he coached football and taught Physical Education to Dallas, Texas, where he taught science, math and health in the Dallas Independent School District, until his retirement in 2001. His influence extended beyond the classroom as a summer counselor with the Dallas Parks and Recreation Center. Outside of teaching, Jimmy's passions were diverse and enriching. An accomplished trombone player, he immersed himself in jazz and blues music, performing with local bands. His love for music was matched only by his love for travel, fishing and boating. He embraced each experience with enthusiasm and joy. He was a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church where he sang in the Men’s Chorus.

He peacefully departed on June 25, 2024, leaving behind cherished memories and a profound impact on all who knew him. Jimmy is lovingly remembered by Oretta Williams, his daughters Terrina, Vanessa, and Regina; His two grandchildren Moe and Madison, his great grandson Dallas, his brother-in-law, Ron Foster and a host of family and friends. He was proceeded in death by his parents and younger sister, Berta Ann Foster. His wit and wisdom will forever be treasured.
