Passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at the age of 98 with family members at her bedside.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Etta Hillpot; her husband, Charles Mundell; and her brother, Frank Hillpot. Although she had no children of her own, she had many nieces and nephews.
She resided with her parents and brother above the Hillpot Sporting Goods store they owned and operated on Jefferson Boulevard in Oak Cliff. She graduated from Oak Cliff High School and was a member of Cliff Temple Baptist church.
As a young woman, she was employed at Chance Vought aircraft plant in Grand Prairie, as a “Rosie the Riveter”. She was very proud of that. She retired from Sears Roebuck & Company on Lamar Street in Dallas after 40 years of service in the mail order department,
She traveled with her sister-in-law, Inez Hillpot. They were inseparable and had a very special relationship living across the alley from one another. They would walk to Kidd Springs park, shop ‘across the river’, and take care of their aging mothers. Auntie Jewell also did volunteer work at Methodist Hospital on Colorado in Kessler Park.
