Mr. Jesse Hill was born on November 29, 1938 in Simsboro, LA to the union of Alma and Gertrude Hill. Jesse received his formal education at Liberty Hill Elementary School, Grambling High School and Grambling College where he played drums in the marching band. At a young age, he joined Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist church in Dubach, LA where he was baptized.
In the late 1950’s, Jesse moved to Dallas, TX to pursue a career in construction. He was an entrepreneur at heart, eventually starting Hill and Jackson Cement Contracting and later Jesse Hill & Associates Cement Contracting.
Jesse had an extreme love for animals. He was known as the “Dog Man” due to his skills in the training of hunting and guard dogs. Jesse was an outdoor sportsman who enjoyed hunting…specifically coon hunting. He developed a passion for raising and riding horses. You would often spot Jesse in events around Dallas parading his horses. He received lots of recognition for horse showmanship. Jesse was fascinated by cars – particularly fast cars. He had a 55 Chevy known as the “Key to the highway”.
Jesse Hill departed this life on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his father, Alma Hill and his mother, Gertrude Hill. Three children preceded him in death: Glenn Criss, Reginald Jemmerson and Terry Sessions. Seven siblings preceded him in death: Estella Hardyway, Margaret Harge, Allen (Sonny) Hill, Gertistine Hill, Grady Hill, Harold Hill, Lenoit Hill and one grandson Tramaine Robinson.
Jesse leaves nine children to cherish his memory Wanda Lewis Gardner, Quinton Hill (Nidel), Jesse Bernard Hill, Tracie Michelle Hill, Monica Hill Jackson, Byron Ford (Amy), Stacey Hill Powers (Michael), Carlos Sessions, and Joshua Hill. He leaves his ex-wife Laruth Hill of Dallas,Texas and three siblings Georgia Durgen (Robert) of Dallas TX; Birdia Easley (Dwaine) of Pomona CA; and Rev. Otis Hill(Lovie) of Simsboro LA and a sister-in-law Lillie Hill. Jesse also leaves to cherish his memory 23 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
