Hogan, Jerry J. Born April 12, 1924 in Houston and passed away December 30, 2013 in Dallas at age 89. He was the son of Henry J. and Catherine Reiter Hogan and graduated from St. Thomas High School in Houston. He was attending Texas A & M when he was called into the U. S. Army in 1942. Jerry served for 39 months in WWII in the Coast Artillery, 34 of those months in the South Pacific. He was in the ultimate return to the Philippines with Gen. Douglas MacArthur. In June of 1950 he joined an Air Force Reserve Unit at Ellington AFB and 4 months later he was called to active duty during the Korean War and spent a year in Japan at Haneada AFB before being discharged in 1951. Jerry was employed by Fram Oil Filter Corp. in Houston and Dallas area for 35 years, retiring as a regional manager in 1986. Jerry was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council # 799. He married Joyce Sowerby in 1946 in Houston, a union that lasted 67 years. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter, Nancy Hill & husband Robert E. Hill, Jr; son, Patrick Hogan & wife, Diane; sons, Jeffrey J. Hogan and Thomas M. Hogan; sister, Shirley O'Brien; brother, R. P. Hogan & wife, Beverly; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Visitation Sunday, January 5, 2013 from 6-8 PM with a rosary at 7PM at the funeral home led by Msgr. Thomas W. Weinzapfel. The Funeral Mass will be Monday, January 6, 2013 at 10AM at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3030 Gus Thomasson Rd. in Dallas with Rev. Michael Guadagnoli, V. F., celebrant. Interment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Rowlett. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to Bishop Lynch High School.
