Jane Ann Athey Brown passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 in Dallas, Texas. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, volunteer, equestrian and talented artist to all that knew and loved her.
Jane was born on January 26, 1965 in Enid, Oklahoma to Charles and Sylvia (Sutherland) Athey Jabara. She graduated from JJ Pearce High School in 1983 in Richardson, Texas. She then attended Baylor University, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in 1987. Jane then received a Masters Degree in Fine Arts from Columbia University in New York City. She then went on to pursue her art career in Dallas, Texas. Among her most notable clients were Jerry Jones, Owner of the Dallas Cowboys, and The Fisher House Foundation (which provides comfort homes across the country for Military and their families during times of hospitalizations and recuperations). She also worked for her Uncle David at David Sutherland, Inc. in Dallas.
Jane was an avid equestrian and competed in her youth. She also trained her beloved horses in Dressage Riding. She recently rode other people’s horses to help out her friends. Jane volunteered at numerous places including the StewPot in Dallas.
Like her mother, Sylvia, Jane was a lover of all animals, especially cats!
Always a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, Jane was active in her church and participated in several mission trips abroad, including to Serbia several times.
She met her husband, Mark Brown through a Christian Group where there was an instant connection. They were married shortly after on May 1st, 2014.
She is survived by her husband, Mark Brown; her mother Sylvia Jabara, sisters Andrea Athey, Lee (Jabara) Fortna (and husband Bob Fortna), Anne (Jabara) Gray and brother Neal Jabara (and wife Emi Jabara); nieces and nephews Andrew, Matthew, Tyler, Kerrie, Daniel, Brian, Christopher, Megan, Mia, Lucas, and Nicolas. Jane had many loving aunts and uncles including Dick Sutherland, David Franklin Sutherland, and Sandra Jane Sutherland. She was preceded in death by her father Charles Athey, her brother, Michael Bruce Athey and her Stepfather, Ronald F. Jabara.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the STEWPOT where she volunteered for the last 15 years.
A visitation for Jane will be held Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 West Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75225, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.
