On December 21, 1951, Johnnie Sue Williams gave birth to one of God’s greatest blessings. She named him James Lee Williams, best known to many of us as “Pookie.” James was a very unique individual, filled with so much love for his family and friends.
James spent his early years and attended elementary school in Corsicana, Texas. Later, he and his mother moved to Dallas, Texas, where he attended and graduated from Lincoln High School. Upon graduating, he met and married Maxine Ashley, and to this union four children were born.
During his early career, James was employed by Dr. Pepper and Verson Steel Company. Later in his career he worked for the Department of Justice until he retired in 2015. James was an avid collector of computer-related items and antiques. His favorite thing to do was going to Ross Department Store to purchase a pair of Chuck Taylor Converse shoes, which he loved to wear while volunteering at 5K running events with his bullhorn. James was a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather.
On Friday, August 3, 2018, James Lee Williams, Sr., transitioned from this life to his eternal home with his mother, Johnnie Sue Williams, and granddaughter, D’Zyreia Williams. Cherishing his precious memories is his wife of 47 years, Maxine Williams; daughter, Victoria; sons, Derrick (Tonya), James, Jr. (Betty) and Desaray (Brittany); grandsons, Dazmean, Joseph and Jace; aunts, Faye Zanders, Vera Jenkins and Louise Alexander; beloved cousin, Bessie Merriweather; and his extended sisters and brothers, Glenda Jones, Rutha Polk, Alvin Hunt, Samuel Taylor, Cornell Smith and Charles Thomas.
