TX. He was born on June 17, 1951 to Ruth and Enos McDonell. He was a 1969 graduate of
Thomas Jefferson High School and a 1975 graduate of the University of North Texas. He
married his first wife Barbara Mitchell in 1973 and became a loving father in 1982. He married
his second wife in 2007 and continued to work at The Dallas Morning News until 2008. Jimmy
enjoyed reading the newspaper, caring for his pets and garden, playing Scrabble and bowling.
His boisterous personality meant you always knew when he was in the room, usually cracking
jokes and making everyone laugh. He was a loving father, sibling, uncle, grandfather, spouse
and friend that will be greatly missed.
James was preceded in death by his wife Mary McDonell. He is survived by his siblings, Rosie
Antosh, Dianne Thompson, Greg McDonell and Rick McDonell; children, Frances Love and
Paul McDonell; and six grandchildren. Family, friends, and those whose lives James touched
are invited to the Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home, 10501 Garland Road, Dallas, TX 75218 on
Saturday June 24, 2017 at 3 pm, to reminisce, grieve, and support one another.
