James O. Henry, Jr., D.D.S., born in Little Rock, Arkansas, November 7, 1932, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 1, 2011, at the age of 78. He started college in 1949, serving in the U.S. Army overseas from 1950-1953. He married Winna Compton in 1955, and graduated from Baylor University and Baylor College of Dentistry. Dr. Henry practiced in Dallas from 1956-1972, and was awarded the Hillenbrand National Fellowship in Dental Administration from the American Dental Association in Chicago 1972-1973. Dr. Henry served as Assistant Dean and Professor at Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas from 1973 to 1998. He retired with the title of Assistant Dean Emeritus. He held many honors and offices, often serving for long periods of time, such as six years as Secretary-Treasurer of the Texas Dental Association, and serving eighteen years as Delegate to the American Dental Association House of Delegates. In 1991, Dr. Henry founded two non-profit associations: The International and American Associations of Clinical Nutritionists and The Clinical Nutrition Certification Board. After dental retirement, he applied his academic, scientific and administrative skills in the development of training programs and advanced certifications for various healthcare professions. He was a deacon of the First Baptist Church in Dallas for approximately 35 years and a deacon at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Dallas for 11 years, teaching Young Married Couples Bible Classes at both churches. Dr. Henry is survived by his wife and love of his life for 56 years, Winna Compton Henry, and his two wonderful sons, James Robert and Kevin Paul and wife Laura of Dallas. Dr. Henry was a devoted Christian husband and father, practitioner, educator and administrator who will be greatly missed. The family is especially grateful for the faithful loving and tender care provided by Billy Chemirmir this last 18 months, and for close friends who have contributed so greatly. Burial will be held for family on Wednesday, Oct. 5th at Hillcrest Memorial Park, with a Memorial Service at Park Cities Baptist Church, Ellis Chapel, 3933 Northwest Parkway, Dallas, Tx. 75225; 214-860-1500 on Thursday, Oct. 6th at 11:00 A.M., with Dr. Alan Streett and Pastor Glenn Meredith presiding.
