Hughwill Rapier, age 92, passed away on March 25, 2023 in Dallas, Texas. He was born on May 2, 1930 in Texarkana, Texas to Vollie and Naomi Rapier. Hughwill was raised in Palestine, Texas and graduated from Palestine High School in 1947. He served in the United States Air Force Security Services as a Cryptolinguist and Analyst from 1948 until 1952. He married Betty Yvonne Higginbotham in 1956 and the couple had two children. He began working as a telephone installer and retired as a Second Line Supervisor after 37 years of service with Southwestern Bell telephone company. During retirement Hughwill and Betty enjoyed traveling to some of their favorite destinations including Fredericksburg, Santa Fe, and Sausalito. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with his family, reading, gardening, driving to see the Texas bluebonnets, and a daily ice cream.
His family and friends will always remember him as an adoring husband, loving father, and the sweetest P/Paw. His other accolades include being The World’s Greatest Phoneman and Official Carrot Cake Tester.
He is preceded in death by his son, Russel Rapier, brothers James, Bill, and Gene and sisters Dorothy, Sheila, and Jackie. He is survived by his wife, Betty Rapier, daughter Vicky and son-in-law Jerry Robbins, granddaughters Samantha and Elizabeth, and their spouses, James Gonzales and Joshua Molleur. His greatest wish is to leave each of you with at least one happy memory of him as he had so many with all of you.
