Rev. Herman Johnson

Reverend Herman Johnson was born on September 7, 1934, in Longview, Texas, to the parentage of Herman and Roxie Johnson. He departed this life on April 9, 2015. Herman was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and a brother.

He was educated in the Longview Public School System and served in the United States Air Force. He met the love of his life in 1959, and they joined in matrimony in 1961. Jean (Jan) Johnson, his devoted wife of 54 years, and Herman were blessed with five beautiful children.

Rev. Johnson served on the staff of St. Phillips Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor C.J. Phillips, Sr., Greater Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, and Mt. Rose Baptist Church, before serving at Pleasant Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor A.C. Toney from 1989 until his passing.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Jean (Jan) Johnson of Dallas, Texas; children, Herman Von Johnson, Jr. and his wife, Katrina, Jerald Sean Johnson of Euless, Texas, Katrina Lewis of DeSoto, Texas, Regina Johnson of Dallas, Texas, and Kaletha Johnson of DeSoto, Texas; sisters, Myrtle Ramseur of Houston, Texas, and Isabella Johnson of Dallas, Texas; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives who will miss him dearly.
