Lupe was born in Dallas at the old Parkland Hospital on December 2, 1936 to Matias Leal and Dolores Soto Leal of Mexico. She attended school in Amarillo, TX and earned her GED from Operation SER in Dallas. She spent her early years in Amarillo and in Michigan and Ohio. Lupe was married to Alfredo Corona Rodriguez for 30 years.
Lupe worked as a hairstylist at various salons in North Dallas for several years as well as at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas as a policy reviewer, Travelers Insurance as a processor, and at DART as a customer service rep. She enjoyed dancing, traveling, going to casinos, playing cards, and collecting coins and dolls.
Lupe is preceded in death by her brothers and sisters Ruben Leal (Dallas), Esperanza Ballín (Amarillo), Julian Leal (Amarillo), Consuelo Dominguez (Amarillo), Raul Leal (Dallas), and Robert Leal (Dallas), and several nieces and nephews in Dallas, Amarillo, Phoenix, and Las Vegas.
Lupe is survived by husband Alfredo Rodriguez, daughter Christine Leal, daughter Consuelo Gutierrez and son-in-law Shane Culp, grandson Christopher Brandon Martinez, and granddaughter Sheerah Amber Guevara (all of Dallas), and great-granddaughter Avery Jené Starks of Azle, TX. Lupe is survived by nieces and nephews Velia Palacio, Irma Ballín, Lupe is also survived by nieces and nephews Velia Palacio, Irma Ballín Arellano, and Stanley Leal (all of Amarillo), Edward Leal (Dallas), and many other family and friends.
