Gonzalo was born in “El Huizache”, Guanajuato, Mexico to Adolfo and Sabina Vega De Patiño. The second of ten children.
He was born "into" humble beginnings like many children of this era. With limited education offered in "El Huizache," Gonzalo toiled with his hands, heart, and mind to grow and prosper into a successful husband, father, and friend. Necessity, determination, and sense of adventure at an age of 12 took him to California and finally to Chicago, IL where he found his calling as a Chef. With vocation on hand, he pursued a home and a kindred spirit to build a family and to live out the days of his life at the age of 20 years old. A man described as respectful, patient, merciful, understanding, accepting, just and fearful of the Lord was befriended by variety of people in this lifetime. Many looked to his mentorship through example; the manner he lived his life.
Not to be fooled by his kindness, Gonzalo was a force to be reckoned with by his talents, noble character, and wisdom. In his lifetime, Gonzalo contributed to many restaurants flourishing under his guidance and many restaurants failing in his absence. Many young men and women saw him as a father figure and respected his advice and counsel.
Gonzalo's passion in life was his family who is his wife, children, and extended family. Gonzalo enjoyed work, traveling, cooking, gardening, reading, dancing, and watching movies.
