Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Dr. George Porter Spicer, Sr. and Myrtle Mae Utley Spicer, he and his family moved to Dallas when he was a young child. George graduated from Adamson High School in 1942 and was president of his senior class. He then volunteered for service in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was a decorated officer. When George returned from his service to our country, he attended Texas A&M University playing basketball and football (Orange Bowl) and graduated in 1947 majoring in accounting, later becoming a noted CPA in Dallas. George also earned his Law Degree from SMU, graduating third in his class in 1954. In addition to his Accounting and Law practice, George was involved in oil & gas, real estate and other businesses. Many will remember him as co-founder/owner of the Jim Allee Oldsmobile, Honda and Jeep dealerships.
Besides his business acumen, Mr. Spicer truly enjoyed life. Kind and affable with always a humble twinkle in his eye, he loved outdoor activities, hunting, fishing, travelling, tennis/golf at DAC Country Club and Brookhaven Country Club, and telling tales with his wide circle of loyal and fun friends. His true joys and love, though, were his wife, children and grandchildren. George was a devoted Christian, former Deacon, and a member of both Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church of Dallas and First Presbyterian Church of Durango.
Preceded in death by his parents, son George P. Spicer, III and sister Margaret L. Spicer, he is survived by the love of his life of almost 62 years Joan Eleanor Spicer; son Samuel George Spicer; daughter Sally Margaret Spicer Pearson and her husband Michael and their son Alexander Pearson; and daughter Joanne Eleanor Spicer Jordanou and her husband Akis and their children Anna Marie and Dimitri George Jordanou.
A memorial service will be held at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church at 3:00 Friday April 24th. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to East West Ministries 2001 West Plano Parkway Suite 3000, Plano, Texas 75075 (eastwest.org). The family is planning a Celebration of Life Reception at their home in Durango, Colorado in early summer.
