George was born in Dallas, Texas on March 29, 1941, to parents Tom W. Rubio and Josephine Rodriguez Rubio. He grew up in El Barrio, “Little Mexico,” playing sports, enjoying family and learning the value of hard work with his father and brothers. While it was not an easy life, it was full of hope and the love of family. His love of sports and family continued throughout his life.
George found the love of his life, Elena, and quickly married her on August 9, 1969. They were together for 52 years and shared a wonderful life, full of love, laughter, movies and good food. Their home was a welcoming refuge for family, friends and the occasional weary traveler, who all sought Elena’s cooking and George’s wise advice.
George was a proud man that was generous and kind. As a father, he taught his children that love, and family was the greatest gift of all. You could always find George surrounded by his grandchildren, making them laugh and feel loved.
George is preceded in death by his parents Tom and Josephine Rubio, his sister Beatrice Rubio, his brothers Tom Rubio and Robert Rubio and nephew John Paul Cantu.
