He was married to his loving wife, Lila Mae Carr, on December 31, 1955, until she preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his sisters, Katy Mae Pettiet and Ava Louise Cherry.
Garland is survived by his son, Garland Smith, Jr. of Dallas, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Richard Peel of Tyler, Texas; brother-in-law, Charles Cherry of McGregor, Texas; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., and Funeral Services will be Friday, August 28, 2015 at 2:00 P.M., all at Grove Hill Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Grove Hill Memorial Park.
