Garland Head

Garland Head passed away with his family by his side on March 25 from complications due to a lengthy illness. Garland was a loving husband, father and grandfather as well as a loyal and true friend. He was born in Waco, Texas on October 10, 1934, the only child of Marguerite and Robert G. Head, Sr. After graduating from John Tyler High School in Tyler, Texas, Garland attended the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration, Finance. It was at this time that he forged a life-long love of UT and Longhorn football.

Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Army Corps in 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1961. Later that year, he moved to Dallas with his young family, remaining a Dallas resident until his passing.

Garland was awarded his CPA certificate in 1971, and embarked on a career with the First National Bank in Dallas. It was here that he met many of his life-long friends. While at the bank, he served as Vice President, Manager of Tax and Risk Management and later Manager of the Leveraged Leasing Department. By 1977, he established a private practice as a CPA/Financial Consultant with clients in Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Many of these clients became good friends, as he continued his practice until the end of his life.

An avid outdoor sportsman, Garland enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing, and he cherished these times with his good friends and family.

Garland is survived by his wife of 20 years, Janice Head of Dallas. Survivors also include three children from his first marriage to Kathryn Head of Arlington: daughter Carol DeMatteo (Ed) of Flower Mound, son Robert Head (Craig Waldo) of San Francisco, daughter Susan Zeff (Joel) of Coppell. Also surviving are his second wife Pamela Reeves of Mineola and their son Brandon Head of Grapevine. Survivors also include his grandchildren Isabella and Zander Zeff of Coppell. Garland also leaves behind many dear friends whom he considered part of his extended family. All will miss his quick wit, funny stories, dry humor and generosity.
