Frederic Fischer

Fred Fischer, 81, died of complications from Waldenstrom’s, a blood cancer on July 5th, 2013. Funeral services will be held 10am Monday, July 8th, at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 Northwest Highway.

Born May 29, 1932, in New York, NY, Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Claire Fischer. He is survived by his wife, Marlene, in a marriage that lasted almost 55 years. Fred was an exceptional father to his three children, all of Dallas: Robert, married to Jill Bruneman Fischer; Jeff, married to Karen Hart; and Lauren Brenner, married to Steve Brenner. Fred was a loving grandfather to Rachel Brenner, Grant Fischer and Clay Fischer. He is also survived by his brother, Ken, who lives in Israel.

Fred achieved the rank of Eagle as an active Boy Scout. He played violin in the orchestra at Syracuse University, where he received his BA in 1954. He also attended law school at New York University. Fred joined the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of Captain and receiving his Pilot Certification in Kingston, NC. In 1956, Fred was stationed at James Connolly AFB in Waco, where he met his future wife, Marlene Ginsburg.

Following his military service, Fred was hired by American Airlines in 1959 and enjoyed a career that spanned 33 years. At the time of his retirement in 1992, Fred was a Captain flying DC-10 international routes. Fred also created a commercial real estate company which he ran during and after his aviation career.

Fred shared his abundant talents with community organizations. As a founding member of Temple Shalom, he sang in the choir and became the first scoutmaster of the Boy Scout troop which he was instrumental in creating. He was active in and made multiple friends through the Rotary Club of Addison. He provided great service for many years as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and Angel Flights.

Fred enjoyed hiking, biking, fishing, golfing and reading. He appreciated classical music, especially the violin. Indeed, less than a week before his death, Fred enjoyed a special violin concert, arranged by his loving family in his hospital room.

Fred used his formidable skills to tackle various home repair and improvement projects. Fred’s family never heard Fred utter a bad word about anyone, and he always look for the good in people.

Fred Fischer was an exemplary business man and community leader. Best of all, he was a warm friend and loving role model for his family. He will be deeply missed.
