As a young child he was brought up in the fear of God where his family attended Point Blank Church of God in Christ. After high school he was accepted and attended Mary Allen Jr. College on a basketball scholarship where he was designated as the captain of the varsity team. His teammates nicknamed him “Goose.” He completed his athletic career at Paul Quinn College and later transferred to Bishop College where he graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Physical Education with a minor in History. After receiving his undergraduate degree, he continued his educational process at Bishop College in the Masters of Education program.
While at Mary Allen Jr. College he met and courted Elzada Parker and they later married on August 24, 1965. He moved to Dallas, Texas where he continued his education and worked full-time to support his family. Out of their marriage they had five children; 4 girls and 1 boy. After college graduation, he was employed with Dallas Independent School District as a physical education coach and science teacher from August 1970 retiring in May of 2000.
Paraphrasing scripture, “a sanctified wife makes a sanctified husband” and this was the case for Floyd and Elzada. As Elzada continued her walk with the Lord, Floyd was drawn in and accepted Christ early in their marriage. Not many years after, he accepted the call on his life to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. He preached his first message on an old pool table in a pool hall in South Dallas. Under the tutelage of the late Bishop F.W. Smith, their outreach ministry began. He and Elzada ministered to the unchurched souls on the streets, in rest homes, treatment centers, prisons, hospitals and door-to-door evangelism. During his work in ministry, he was appointed an Elder, Pastor and a District Superintendent under Texas Northeast Third Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, Prelate, the late Bishop T.W. Johnson. His final ministry assignment was Assistant Pastor at J. Neaul Haynes Memorial COGIC, Pastor, Rev. Carlos R. Bell.
Preceding him in death are his parents Collier and Myrtle Williams, Sr., brother, Collier, Jr., sister, Doreatha Jordan. He leaves behind a loving wife Elzada Faye; five children, Samantha (Carlos), SeSeatha (Al), Sabatha (G. Craige), Semetra (Joshua) and Floyd, Jr. (LaMonica); eleven grandchildren, Victoria (Cameron), Antoinette, Landon, Tristen, Duke, LaKenya, Kirsten, Jonathan, Brooke, Brittany and Joshua; two great grands Taylor and River; five sisters and two brothers and a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
