Eugene “Warren” Aune, Jr. was a friend, golfer, and successful businessman who passed away last Friday, May 3rd, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He was being treated for cancer for the past many months and was taken from us much too early at the age of 58.
Warren is survived by his wife Jo Anne, daughter Eden and father Eugene Warren Aune. Brother Jon Aune, wife Marci and children Ashley, Kaylee, Coy, Carson and wife Rachael and their daughter Quinn, Mary Catherine and husband Travis Sikes. He is also survived by brother Greg Aune, wife Karen and their children Austin, Turner, Chad and Carrie.
Warren was a wonderful father to Eden. Whether it was on the volleyball court, soccer, gymnastics, or cheerleading team you could always see and hear him leading Eden’s team cheers.
After attending Hillcrest High School in 1973, Warren played on the golf team at the University of Texas with Ben Crenshaw and Tom Kite before graduating. He played on the PGA Tour in the early 70’s. Career highlights include winning the 1976 Heart of America Midwest Four Ball Golf Championship in St Louis with Dean Fawcett and taking 2nd in the Trans Miss Invitational.
Over 20 years ago, Warren joined G&K Services where he served as their General Sales Manager.
When not working, Warren spent much of his free time at Royal Oaks Country Club where he was often seen at the Driving Range, offering sage counsel to those who were seeking to refine their golf swings. He was also a terrific gin rummy player and often seen holding court in the 19th hole with tales of life on the PGA Tour!
Warren will be missed by so many of us. But we know his journey to heaven will be surrounded by the love that he shared with so many.
Visitation will be held at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home Tuesday evening between 5 - 7 PM. The memorial church service will be at 1 PM on Wednesday at St. James Episcopal Church in Dallas.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Northern Texas PGA Junior Golf Foundation.
