Emil J. Horak, passed away peacefully in his home on December 29th with family by his side. Married for over 62 years, Emil, is preceded in death by his parents Frank J. Horak and Emily Laza Horak, and twin brother, Frank L. Horak of Dallas, Texas, and many aunts and uncles and grandparents of Ennis and Dallas, Texas. Emil, is survived by his wife Vanora Pokorny Horak, and son Emil Horak Jr. and his wife Elizabeth Perez, and grandchildren Holley Horak, her longtime boyfriend Ron Brantley and grandson Ryan Horak, his nieces, Julie Horak and Jennifer Horak, their husbands, Christopher Kobos and Jason Pali.
Emil, was the younger of identical twins, born in Ennis, Texas, on the family farm, on September 12, 1930. Emil spent much of his youth attending Ennis public schools and as a member of St. Johns Catholic Church in Ennis. Emil was a graduate of Jesuit High School in Dallas, Texas, class of 1949. Emil has been a lifelong member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, in Dallas, Texas. As a dedicated Catholic, Emil, volunteered at the church and served as an usher for over two decades. Emil was a member of SPJST and KJT in Ennis for over 50 years and regularly attended Czech events in Ennis with his family, and loved celebrating his culture and love of Czech music. Emil had a love of photography and was our family photographer, many of the memories we have are because of his love to capture those special family moments.
Emil had a fascination and talent for electronics and worked for Sears and Roebuck for over 30 years, as a technician servicing North Texas market, where he was recognized often for providing excellent service to his customers. It was often said, he never met a stranger, and it couldn’t be truer, he was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it, loved his family and had a wonderful life.
There will be a rosary on January 11th at 7:00 pm at Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home located at 10501 Garland Road, Dallas, Texas 75218, visitation will begin at 5:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3030 Gus Thomasson Road, Dallas, Texas, 75228, on January 12, 2023 at 10:30 am. Burial and graveside interment will be in the Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery, located at 1500 W. Ennis Avenue. Ennis, Texas, at 12:00 pm on January 12th, where Emil will be reunited with his parents, Frank J. Horak and Emily Laza Horak.
Arrangements under the direction of Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home, Dallas, TX. The family has asked in Lieu of flowers, to offer a remembrance mass for Emil at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ennis, Texas, or St. Pius X Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas.
