Edmund "Ed" Sanford Gilman, born on October 6th, 1925, in Forest Hills, New York, peacefully passed away on September 14th, 2023, in Dallas, Texas, surrounded by four generations of loving family. He was the son of Warren Gilman and Laura Kepner Gilman and he was raised in the vibrant neighborhood of Forest Hills, New York.
Ed's early education included Jesuit primary schooling, laying the foundation for a life dedicated to knowledge and service. He continued his academic journey at Brooklyn Preparatory School and went on to achieve a bachelor’s degree in physics from Fordham University in New York in 1949, marking the beginning of a remarkable career.
Ed's professional journey led him to become the President at Foster Wheeler Limited, where he served with distinction for more than three decades. He later took on the role of CEO at Forney Engineering, embarking on countless world travels alongside his beloved wife, Beverly.
During World War II, Ed served his country with honor and bravery in the Army Air Corps. As a Staff Sergeant, he served as a tail gunner with the 58th Bomb Wing in New York, operating on the B-29 Superfortress known as "Jack's Hack." For his unwavering dedication and service, Ed was awarded several prestigious medals, including the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star, and the World War II Victory Medal.
In addition to his professional achievements and military service, Ed was a man of many passions. He was an avid sports enthusiast, with a deep love for the Brooklyn Dodgers, the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Cowboys, and Mavericks. Ed cherished sharing stories of his honorable military career with his grandsons, fostering a legacy of valor and commitment.
A devout Catholic, Ed found solace and strength in his faith and attended mass regularly. His unwavering devotion to his Lord and Savior guided his life and inspired those who knew him.
Edmund is survived by his loving son, Bill Gilman; his stepson, Steven Malkin, and his wife, Linda Malkin; his grandsons, Josh Gilman, and Shawn Gilman, along with Shawn's wife, Danielle Gilman. His legacy continues through his great-grandson Harrison, a testament to the enduring bonds of family that Ed held dear.
Edmund "Ed" Sanford Gilman's visitation will be on September 26, 2023, from 4 pm-8 pm and the funeral will be held on September 27, 2023, at 2 pm for mass and 3 pm for service at Calvary Hill Funeral Home, located at 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas, Texas 75220. Immediately following the service, a catered reception will follow. In lieu of condolences, the family kindly requests that flowers be sent to the funeral home. The service will include a Catholic mass and communion, followed by interment into the family mausoleum.
