Earl graduated from Ferndale High School class of 1950 where he enjoyed playing on the varsity basketball team. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army and stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. He and his ex-wife, Shirlee Dugan, had five children, Leanne, David, Kim, Jeff and Chris. Seeking a better life for the family and ready to trade the Texas climate for the Pennsylvania climate, he and Shirlee packed up the 1947 Ford and headed to Dallas as fast as they could.
He had a successful career in the tire industry until his retirement in January 1998. Upon retirement he spent time volunteering at Doctor's Hospital to provide support to those having heart surgery and continued his volunteer efforts with Golden Acres and The Bridge.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Marjorie Hoover. He is survived by his spouse, Jean, and his five children, Leanne, David, Kim, Jeff and Chris, as well as by his two grandsons, Grayson and Clayton.
A service of remembrance will be held at 1pm at Wednesday, May 22, at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home at 7405 West Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75225 in Chapel East in the Mausoleum.
