Donald Phillip Herzog, 82 of Dallas, Texas was born April 11, 1938 in Ste. Genevieve, MO to Phillip and Rosanna Herzog. He passed away on September 18, 2020. Donald married Genevieve Winston on October 29, 1960 in Ste. Geneieve, MO.
He served in the U.S. Army from 9/13/56 -9/3/59 as a construction surveyor.
Don was an active member of All Saints Catholic Church in Dallas where he served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. He also belonged to the Empty Nesters Group where he and his wife often acted as hosts for their monthly gatherings. Don served as a member of the Sachse Chamber of Commerce and he was a recent recipient of “The Legend of Sachse” award. Annually he donated to and participated in the City of Sachse and City of Wylie’s Chamber of Commerce Galas and was named the recipient of the Small Business of the Year Award.
Don was a residential and commercial developer in the metroplex for many years. The Woodbridge subdivision is his largest and most well known Master Planned Development and is located in Sachse and Wylie, Texas. In the U.S. Army Don was a construction surveyor. He used that experience along with hard work, honest business practices, solid ethics and a strong integrity to build his company, Herzog Development Corporation. He loved planning and developing raw land into communities that many would be able to call “Home” one day. Don devoted most of his waking hours to that task. Not only was it his career; it was his main hobby. Bar-B-Queuing was a talent he enjoyed sharing. Don volunteered his talents occasionally for charity events and family functions at his house most often included his famous “ribs”. He loved golf and he played often at Woodbridge Golf Club and in tournaments within the metropolitan area. For many years Woodbridge Golf Club was home to the North Texas Chapter of the PGA.
Don was born in Missouri which still holds a piece of his heart since his brother, sisters and extended family reside there; however, Don considered Texas his home.
