A graduate of St. Mark's School of Texas (a proud 12-year guy) and the University of Texas at Dallas with honors, Don was a son, brother and friend to many, and will always be remembered for being a "loving, kind man." He had a deep appreciation for his family, friends and caregivers who supported and encouraged him throughout the years. “Don-Bob,” “Donaldinho,” “Big Don” was a guy who loved simple pleasures: his favorite purple shirts, chocolate ice cream, a morning and midnight helping of cereal, the Dallas Cowboys, oyster po’boys, and being the “all-time quarterback.” Don was a voracious reader and lover of fantasy fiction. He often read three books at a time and enjoyed sharing his books with others. Don was famous for quoting his favorite music lyrics and lines from movies; some of his favorites, “With or Without You” by U2, “Born in the USA” by Bruce Springsteen, and “The Key” by REO Speedwagon. Don’s sense of humor showed itself even on his most difficult days; he made us all laugh when quoting from “Blazing Saddles.” Don had a beautiful soul, nurtured through a composite of religious beliefs and hope for a better world. His courage and faith and willingness to try to be better each day were an inspiration to all. In the words best sung by Bono… Don, “we hope you’ve found what you are looking for.”
Donald is preceded in death by his father, Robert H. Bloom and his brother-in-law, Aaron S. Gordon, and is survived by his mother, Mary Wachenheim Bloom, his sister Laura Bloom Gordon, brother Sam (Sarah) Bloom, nephews Henry (Kristen) Gordon, Ben Gordon and Oliver Bloom, and his niece Dulany Bloom.
